Highway connections

Limburg is an international hub for trans-European road traffic in north-south as well as east-west directions. Operational considerations and logistical perspectives add real value to Limburg as an important logistics hub in Northwestern Europe. The province has developed into a centre for value added logistics. The main motorways that traverse Limburg are:

  • E-25/A-2 from Amsterdam via Maastricht to Luxembourg, Geneva and Milan: the arterial highway in the Netherlands
  • E-31/A-73 from Rotterdam/Nijmegen via Venlo and Maastricht to Luxembourg, France and the German Rhine-Ruhr area
  • E-34/A-67 from Antwerp to Eindhoven via Venlo to the German Rhine-Ruhr area
  • E-314/A-76 from Brussels via Sittard-Geleen and Heerlen to Aachen, Cologne and Frankfurt

Air transport
Maastricht Aachen Airport (340.000 passengers and 88.000 mtons cargo expected in 2008) offers scheduled services to many European destinations. International airports at Brussels and Düsseldorf are within an hour's drive. Limburg province is also located close to the main European integrator hubs of DHL in Brussels, TNT in Liege and UPS in Cologne.

Rail transport

With a top speed of 200 kph the Maastricht-Brussels Express train brings traveling time from Maastricht to Brussels down to one hour and 20 minutes, to Paris to 3 hours and to London to 4 hours. The German ICE-network is reached within 30 minutes from Maastricht.

Cargo comes from Rotterdam and Antwerp, rail facilities include shuttles from Antwerp with freight trains to Italy and Austria. Venlo terminal offers from 2009 trimodal facilities.
